Tim Hortons Rally Cap

  • Ages 4-7 (Year of Birth 2008-2012)

  • Registration $40

  • Dates TBD 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Baseball Canada launched its Rally Cap Program in 2006 in an attempt to improve players’ skills and keep children between four and seven coming back to the ballpark.

A modified version of baseball, Rally Cap features three teams of six players (+/-) competing at the same diamond for 60 minutes. Two of the teams play baseball in the infield while the third team practices skills in the outfield. After 20 minutes the teams rotate, and at the end of the night each team has played two 20-minute mini-games and had one practice. Coaches are supplied with skills and drills manuals. Players are given jerseys (which they keep) and require a glove and good runners. Strong parent involvement is encouraged (YOU can DO IT!).

All activities take place at the Kleefeld Park. It is a house league style, as they do not play against other towns. The players are introduced to baseball, learn the basics of throwing and hitting, and play games amongst their group with an emphasis on sportsmanship and self esteem. Tim Hortons sponsors this level in Manitoba and provides complimentary items for the players. If the weather does not cooperate the game may be rescheduled. Kids born in 2008 that have played 2 seasons of rally cap may register at the Grand Slam level, if the parents prefer.

9U (aka Grand Slam)

  • Ages 8-9 (Year of Birth 2008-2009)

  • Registration $60

  • Practice dates TBD and Games dates TBD.

Grand Slam is a level that is similar to Rally Cap and also provides the opportunity to play against other teams. Grand Slam aged players will practice on (Dates TBA) using the rally cap format. Kids also get their first experience in games against other communities, one game a week. (6 person teams) Teams follow a schedule and the season ends in late June with a fun tournament called the Carillon Grand Slam Jamboree. Kids born in 2006 that have played 2 seasons of rally cap may register at the Grand Slam level, if the parents prefer.

The Grand Slam league, is full baseball using adult pitchers, providing more consistent strikes, plenty of fast paced action as more balls are put into play.

  • Games are approx. 60 minutes long starting at 6:45 pm and finish around 7:45 pm but coaches usually want players to arrive about 15 minutes earlier for a pre-game warm-up
  • Team practices TBD. Teams are encouraged to practice weekly, in addition to the games.
  • All players bat each inning.

Equipment Needed:

  • Cleats or runners with good grip soles.
  • A glove that fits the player properly.
  • A personal good fitting batting helmet with chin strap (optional). Team use helmet’s will be available.

11U (aka Mosquito)

  • Ages 10-11 (Year of Birth 2006-2009)

  • Registration $80

  • Games dates TBD.

Mosquito baseball gives the kids their first opportunity to experience pitching. The teams play a schedule against other communities that includes 1 game a week. Practices will start in mid-April (weather permitting) and the season will finish toward the end of June.

Games start at 6:45 pm and run about 2 hours(2 – 4 inning games), but coaches usually want players to arrive about 15 minutes earlier for a pre warm-up

At 11U, umpires are introduced and players begin to learn the art of pitching (pitch count rule is enforced). If four balls are thrown the coach will ‘soft pitch’ to the batter to encourage hitting and putting the ball into play. Players are encouraged to learn all positions and really get a feel for the game.

Parental involvement is encouraged as score keeping and pitch counting is required.

Three coaches per team is strongly recommended. At least one coach must be certified.
